What instrument is that?
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked this question—after concerts, at shows and even in rehearsals with other musicians! You would be surprised at how often I get asked if my bass clarinet is a black saxophone (and not just by kids).
I created this website to bring awareness to the bass & contrabass clarinet. These instruments should not be thought of as unnecessary or too complicated to teach or play, but rather as a new color that should be explored and utilized in a wide variety of ensembles.

Expanding the Bass & Contrabass Clarinet Solo & Chamber Repertoire
The work highlighted here, is based on research-led practice that seeks to better understand and expand repertoire utilized by both bass and contrabass clarinet. This will be accomplished in a two-part research process. First, we look at the current repertoire in New York state and my personal experience in the field. Next, I organize and maintain a compositional consortium meant to develop new pieces that will add to the current catalog of music available for these instruments.
This work will culminate May 12, 2018 at 3pm at Provincetown Playhouse with an interactive lecture and world premiere performances of five newly-commissioned pieces featuring the bass and contrabass clarinet in all their glory.
